Guy Coughlan

Guy Coughlan Guy Coughlan is a Managing Director at J.P. Morgan, where he runs the firm’s Longevity Solutions business. A specialist in ALM and risk management, he has been involved in advising corporations, pension funds, and insurers on strategic risk management, asset-liability management, debt management and capital structure.

Guy led the development of LifeMetrics, an open-source platform for longevity risk management that includes longevity indices. His recent work has focused on basis risk in longevity hedges, two-population stochastic mortality models and the development of a liquid market for longevity risk transfer. In 2008 he was involved in executing the world’s very first longevity hedges using capital markets swaps.

Guy is an active participant in the newly-formed Life & Longevity Markets Association (LLMA), a cross industry body set up to promote the development of a liquid market in longevity risk transfer. He chairs the Technical Committee of the LLMA. Guy holds a BSc (Honours) degree from the University of Western Australia, a DPhil (PhD) in theoretical physics from Oxford University in the UK and an MBA. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Corporate Treasury Management.
